So you want to know about "the artist" ... Ok, the most important information can be found in the "Spearfish Legend" section of this website. Here however, as Paul Harvey says is, "The rest of the story."

August 17, 1984 I married my best friend, Lynn White, affectionately known as L.W. She is still my best friend and the mother of two of the finest people I've ever met. My daughter Abigail and my son Gabriel. Born to us in 1987 and 1990 the two best gifts the Lord ever gave any man.

Another gift He gave me was a heart and an eye for all things wild and all things colorful. Perhaps my Native American roots, my dad's mom was a full blood Cherokee and my childhood lived in the mountains of eastern Tennessee and rural western North Carolina helped shape that natural endowment.

As far back as I can remember I was drawing and sketching yet not necessarily painting. Actually, with the insistence of my older brother Bob, I finally picked up a paint brush in my early twenties. After a few acrylic paintings I discovered watercolor and a "never look back" love affair began.

Artists say that watercolor is the hardest media to master and perhaps it can't be mastered but can only be enjoyed as it takes you along into a never ending, always evolving journey, filled with color and texture unattainable in any other media. All watercolors are a one of a kind window into the mind and heart of the one with the brush.

From their blend and bleed subtleties, to their color intensities, they can never be exactly duplicated, even by the one who creates them first. More than any other media, watercolor gives you an original work of art. I often try to bend the rules of this wonderful media and it continues to stretch me.

AHHH, but you like oil paintings...So do I. I love oil painting and I'll tell you why, but don't take this wrong. The reason I love it is because it is more sensual. By this I mean as you paint with oil paint you can feel it move and move it with feeling. Oil paintings also have a texture and light play that is three dimensional and dang near quintessential once the painting is birthed.

Drawing (no pun intended) from my numerous hiking, hunting and fishing experiences in 15 states from Florida to Alaska. I have a mind full of memories and a studio full of photographs waiting to become paintings. Nevertheless, inspiration also comes in the every day beauties of life, from the view of Pilot Mountain out my back window to the flowers in my back yard.

In my paintings you will notice different styles and different subject matter and that shows that I am anything but one dimensional. Speaking of which, I also enjoy working in other art media from color pencil to carvings. Enjoy the Portfolio. If you don't see exactly what you want or like then e-mail or call me and see what the power of suggestion can do for you.

If you want to know more about me... look again at my art and look closer this time, and if that's not enough you need only to call or write. Also, I would really want to thank each of you who have been supportive and interested in my artistic endeavors.

Now in the words of my favorite song writer, may you have "Love and Laughter, Rhythm and Rhyme" and remember God "delights in you 'cause He made you this way."
